Bosnia and Herzegovina (a.k.a. Bosnia) is a country that borders Serbia and Croatia and Montenegro. For some reason Bosnia has a little sliver of land right at the bottom of Croatia before Dubrovnik. The capital is Sarajevo. Sarajevo was a city that was under a 4 year siege during the war. It was almost completely destroyed. There is a historic bridge in Sarajevo. There is also a book called Zlata Filipovic's Diary. It was her diary when during the war and what she witnesses and how scared she was. Aljia Izetbegović was the president at the time of the war. In 1992 Izetbegović declared independence of Bosnian and Herzegovina even though Serbia threatened them to not secede. Before the treaty of peace, countless times Izetbegović tried to make a peaceful solution. Sometimes it wouldn't work and they would have to bring out their army.
Bosnia and Herzegovina,
War
During the Balkan War a Bosnia and Herzegovina city called Sarajevo was under siege. There were snipers on the roofs of building shooting people for no reason. The Serbian army was bombing buildings, schools, and even parks. One person died because a piece of the bomb (called the shell) penetrated her skull. The people who were alive had to live with scarce food, sometimes weeks without running water and electricity. At one point there was a line of people waiting for bread and they bombed the people in line, all of them died. The bombers were in the army, but the snipers were not employed by the army and were doing it on their own.
