Serbia is a country in the Balkans which during Yugoslavia as a country it was the center point of the government of Yugoslavia. It controlled the armies and all of the things that the government controlled. So at the beginning Serbia gave all of the other countries the armies and other stuff so at the the war the armies were extracted to Serbia so Serbia had the strongest (and only) army. Serbia also had Belgrade. Belgrade mean the "White City". This is where the Government was. None of the Serbian cities were destroyed because they had the army. Belgrade dates back to the 4th century BC. One of the oldest cities in Europe.
Serbia War/Leader
Serbia had the most sophisticated army, they had army planes and bombs and guns etc... They were the ones who could destroy most of the cities. The other countries only had guns and they had to draft people. They also weren't the ones who wanted land from Croatia. The Serbian army was leaded by Slobodan Milošević, Slobodan Milošević was the Serbian president during the war. He had a brother named Borislav. Milošević's father Svetozar was a general in the Montenegrin Army and later committed suicide and mother Stanislava was a school teacher. His parents split up after the war. Milošević went on to study law at the University of Belgrade's Law School, where he became the head of the ideology committee of the Yugoslav Communist League's (SKJ) student branch (SSOJ). He became president in 1997-2000. As the president he could command the armies to do what ever he wanted. He wanted Serbia to rule and take of all of the other countries and leave them only the parts that Serbia didn't want. In Croatia they wanted the part that bordered Bosnia and Herzegovina. They also wanted to be intimidating so they went and demolished a quarter of the Dubrovnik Castle and had a big war and they also had a four year siege on Sarajevo. Milošević ordered the genocide in Sarajevo.
